Dear visitor of Central Storage Facility for Radioactive Waste!
Our work is guided by safety, environmental and public acceptability. Safety and safety culture are intertwined in all segments of our operation. Before entering the facility, make sure to read and understand all safety instructions and regulations.
– Central Storage Facility (CSF) is located in the security-controlled area of the “Jožef Stefan” Institute, Reactor Center (address:

– Access to the security-controlled area is only granted through the entrance gate.
– Visitors and personnel must present identification upon entry.
– Follow all instructions and guidelines provided by our staff.
– Do not touch any equipment or materials without permission and supervision from the facility staff.
– Eating and drinking inside the facility are strictly prohibited.
– In case of an emergency, promptly follow evacuation procedures and exit the facility.
– If you notice any unsafe conditions or practices, report them immediately to our staff.
– Continuous monitoring through a video surveillance system is in place within the security-controlled area and throughout the facility.
– Photography is generally not allowed, except for specific cases that require prior agreement with our staff. Any photographs taken by visitors must be approved by ARAO.
– The parking lot is located above the warehouse. In case of organized bus transportation, please contact the security guard for parking instructions.
Safety Instructions for Radiation Protection
To ensure your safety and minimize radiation exposure, please adhere to the following instructions when entering the storage facility:
– Prior to entering the storage facility, our staff will brief you on the facility’s properties, radiation conditions, safety measures, entry and exit procedures, movement within the facility, and restrictions.
– Before entering the area where radioactive waste is stored, visitors must put on a protective suit and gloves at the entry point and remove them upon exit, returning them to the appropriate location.
– Touching the surfaces of stored objects in the area where radioactive waste is stored is strictly prohibited.
– Visitors must stay together as a group and remain within the area designated by our staff.
– Upon leaving the area where radioactive waste is stored, visitors must undergo palm and shoe sole contamination measurements using the contamination monitor. In case of contamination, they should follow our staff’s instructions.
Restrictions when entering the storage facility:
– Entry into the area where radioactive waste is stored is allowed for adults only. Minors aged 6-18 may enter only when accompanied by parents or guardians. Pregnant women are advised against entering the facility.
– Due to the exposure to radiation during the visit, the time spent in the area where radioactive waste is stored is limited to 30 minutes for adults and 15 minutes for minors.
– The allowed exposure is up to 100 μSv per visit.
