Open Day of the construction site for local community
On Thursday, October 17, we organized an Open Day for the local community. The main goal of the Open Day was to further increase the transparency and accessibility of information that the local community needs during the construction of such a facility and to establish even better mutual trust and cooperation.
We hosted more than 80 visitors, which is almost the full capacity of visitors that we can accept at such a facility due to strict security measures. In six one-hour meetings, ARAO colleagues presented the project, the individual phases, the current activities we are carrying out and the plans for the future. At the same time, the visitors had the opportunity to have one-on-one conversation with the experts.
Currently 11 ARAO colleagues working on the project of LILW disposal facility, most of them from the local environment. They are our best ambassadors. We are happy that the visitors were able to see that both the construction of the facility and its operation in the future are safe. What's more, with the construction, we contribute to the realization of the strategic goal of protecting people and the environment from the possible harmful effects of ionizing radiation, thereby permanently solving the long-term management of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste in Slovenia.
