Completion of the silo base oncrete slab marks an important construction milestone

At the construction site of the low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste repository, one of the key phases of the project is currently underway – the concreting of the final section of the silo’s foundation slab. Once this phase is completed, the base of the silo will be fully finished. In total, approximately 2,500 cubic metres of concrete will be installed, representing an important structural and organisational milestone for the project.

The concreting of the silo base is a technically demanding operation that requires precise coordination of all participating teams, continuous quality control, and strict adherence to project and safety standards. The completion of this phase means that the main load-bearing structural foundation of the facility has been successfully completed and is ready for the next stages of construction.

Quality verification – the test field as a guarantee of safety

In large and complex infrastructure projects, the test field plays an important role in ensuring quality. At the test field, samples are cut and collected in order to verify the mechanical properties of the materials used, their durability, and compliance with all project requirements. This approach provides an additional level of quality assurance and ensures that both the materials and construction procedures meet the strict standards required for the facility’s long-term and safe operation.

Construction progressing in other areas of the site

 within the administrative and service building, reinforcement of the basement floor slab is currently being installed and formwork is being prepared; within the technological facility, parapets are being constructed on the roof in the first phase, while excavation for the foundation slab is underway in the second phase. The project is therefore progressing according to plan, and each completed step represents further progress toward establishing a safe, modern and sustainable infrastructure for radioactive waste management in Slovenia.
